Design

Commentary
Proper drainage may have alleviated the problems with this design. However with careful attention to the placement of this shop at the design stage problems may have been avoided.

While it is predominantly women who continue to be responsible for feeding household members, and purchasing the provisions required to maintain them, bad neighbourhood design will continue to disproportionately impact women and increase their work burden, poor women in particular.
